Twilight
Mimi Wong

Miles from sleep, hours ‘til day,
I discover, as I lay consumed by the dark,
Fragmented remains of an anxious Monday;
From winter boots to summer sandals,
Tomorrow’s coat and yesterday’s uniform,
Old names spill from my thoughts like a forgotten language.
I’ve a new tongue now.
The words I’ve learned are those unfettered by regret,
Free from the stains of stagnant roots;
The words I’ve learned flutter around me,
Uncertain, yet more solid than
The gibberish I once spoke.
