Dartmouth College: Main St.
The first issue of Main St. appeared last month featuring a slew of news briefs, a look at Asian-American student life at Dartmouth, an interview with director Ang Lee ('Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon'), and more. Recognizing an underrepresentation of the Asian community at Dartmouth College, juniors Shirley Lin and Jeanette Park took up the mission to put forth this publication that focuses on the issues that pervade the immediate as well as greater Asian American community.

What is Main St.?
Main St.
is Dartmouth’s Asian-American news and opinion quarterly.  This publication will serve as a common forum for dialogue and expression within the Asian-American community.  We also seek to inform the Dartmouth community as a whole about Asian-American issues and encourage scholarship on Asian-American issues.

Why is it titled Main St.?
Main St. is a play on the ubiquitous Main Streets of American communities and the increasing presence of Asian-Americans in the United States.

What does Main St. cover?
Main St. hasthree main sections: 1) News, which will cover campus, nation, and global developments; 2) Opinion, in which students, faculty, and alumni address cross-cultural issues; 3) Features, which will include personal essays, academic papers, and interviews with prominent campus figures.  Neither academic journal nor magazine, Main St. is a unique animal, ultimately emphasizing quality and informative writing.

Who can submit to Main St.?
Main St.
welcomes submissions from all groups.  The publication serves the entire campus and honors manuscripts regardless of the race, ethnicity, or creed of the contributor insofar as they pertain to Asian-American or minority issues.  Undergraduates, graduate students, alumni, faculty, and administrators are all welcome to contribute.  Contributions may come in the form of opinion pieces, personal essays and papers.  We also welcome photographers and artists throughout the term.
