Opening events
to students from other universities is the first step in creating
an intercollegiate Asian community. Individual student organizations
benefit from the ability to reach a larger audience and to tap into
the support system afforded by an intercollegiate Asian community.
The A/P/A community as a whole benefits from the exchange of ideas
and the ability to mobilize resulting from the establishment of relationships
between organizations. So, get involved. Get active.
Anime
Screenings
Date: Every Saturday during the
school year (except holidays)
Description: The Harvard Anime
Society screens subtitled anime in Loker Commons from 2-6 pm. This
includes a mix of old favorites and new releases, and usually features
at least one continuing series each week.

Lunar
New Year Celebration 2001 -- Year of the Snake
Date: January 26, 2001
Description: Collaborating with
the various Asian American clubs and organizations on-campus, Lambda
Phi Epsilon is organizing a festival with booths, performances, literature,
and demonstrations. Featured during this day of fun and entertainment
is a lion dance, Korean drummers, and a Vietnamese tree of luck. The
day will end with a dinner and party, which unlike the rest of the
day's activities, are not free. This festival is a celebration of
the variety and richness of the cultures that represent Asia.

Pacific American Awareness Conference (APAAC)

East
Coast Asian Student Union Conference (ECASU)
Date: February 23-24, 2001
Description: ECASU 2001, the largest
Asian American Conference on the East Coast, will be held at Columbia
University in New York City. This year's theme is "Evolution: Creating
a New Consciousness". The keynote speaker, Vivek Bald — an activist,
filmmaker, producer, and DJ here in the city that never sleeps—will
be making ECASU history by breaking free of the structure of a typical
keynote speech, with a multimedia presentation featuring clips of
his films and music. In this groundbreaking manner, he will deliver
his message on the role of art and music in politics, and the need
for unification on the international front for the advancement of
common causes. Registration on-line opens on December 1st, 2000 and
more details will soon be available via email as well as on our website.

ITASA
East Coast Conference
Date: March 1-3, 2001
Description: A conference for
Taiwanese-Americans, Taiwanese, and ANYONE interested in Taiwanese
culture. It will be three-day event with over 400 participants, representing
over 60 schools on the East Coast. The theme of this year's conference
is "Revolution", the aim of which is to "educate, inspire, and regenerate"
the Taiwanese-American community through a variety of workshops and
a leadership-development series. Featured guest speakers include Jeff
Yang, CEO of aMedia; Judge Ida Chen of Philadelphia; and renowned
activist, Wang Dan from Harvard University.
