Mt. Holyoke College: Chinese Student Association (CSA)

The cultural diversity at Mount Holyoke College is reflected in many student organizations. The Chinese Student Association (CSA) is an inclusive organization, providing a place to embrace our rich Chinese culture and heritage and raise awareness of Chinese and Chinese-American issues.

The Chinese Student Association can also be used as a support group or place where students can relate and talk about similar issues. We strive to share our culture, traditions, and celebrations. CSA is an organization dedicated to spreading pride, knowledge, and fun in relation to our beautiful Chinese culture!

CSA formed last year to address the lack of representation of Chinese students on campus. Although CSA is a new organization, we have already organized many events. We organized cultural activities such as Moon Day Celebration, Chinese movie night, sold good luck candy boxes, sang a Chinese song for Family Weekend's Cultural Celebration, sponsored a Halloween party, sang and performed traditional red ribbon and fan dances for Variasians, MHC's annual Asian show. Currently, we are planning CSA's China Night for February 10th, in celebration of our Chinese culture and the Lunar New Year. Next semester, we plan to have Chinese cooking nights, attend conferences pertaining to Asian and Asian-American issues, and raise money for a social service organization or support in building a library in China.

We are also working to affiliate our organization with the East Coast Asian Student Union (ECASU) and national organizations such as the Organization of Chinese Americans (OCA).
