Erica Swallow
Co-President

During her freshman year, she and her friends founded China Care NYU, based on the experiences that Alice Chen, one of the founding members, had with China Care. Since that day, she’s been compelled to help China Care grow with each year, so that the club can help more disabled Chinese orphans obtain the lives that all people deserve. She love the fact that the club is actually helping children get life-saving surgeries and the love that they need. The club does this by having spectacular events and fundraisers, like her personal favorite, the Yuan Fashion Show, which is sponsored by the NYU Chinese Mei Society. This year, she is looking forward to creating our Dumplings Program, a program that helps build a bond between adopted Chinese children and their birth country, as well as fosters a sense of community among families.

Alice got involved with China Care after spending 4 months in Beijing after graduating from high school, volunteering at the China Care Children Home. After returning to US, she wanted to continue helping out and so started China Care at NYU with three of her close friends. Her favorite aspect about being a member of China Care NYU is the reward she get for meeting people who are as passionate about making a difference as she is. Also, helping disabled orphans in China is a cause very close to her heard and it thrills her to share this exceptional experience with others. Her favorite event would have to be playing and taking care of the kids in the children home in Beijing. It is so great to see where the club's efforts are going towards first hand, which is making a difference in the lives of these kids. This year, she has high hopes that China Care NYU will become bigger and better. Already the club has been voted the pervious year for being the honored non-profit organization on campus. This year will be fun and she is really excited to meet all the new students interested in China Care's cause! |

Jackie happened to live on the same floor as Erica and Alice her freshman year. One day, Alice asked her if she would be interested in starting a NYU branch of this great club called China Care. She said yes! She really enjoys working with the other care bears. Everyone is so willing to help and full of great ideas. The members get together, think creatively, and the end result saves lives. She loves how easy it is to find kindness in people’s hearts and make such a big impact. She really loves getting student bands together for various benefit concerts, and it has been great seeing them become a tradition. She is very excited for China Care NYU’s future. She really feels that the club is developing into a community-based, socially conscious, sustainable and supportive organization and she is so excited about the club’s upcoming developments… |
Annie Feng
Secretary

Annie got interested in China Care because a friend of hers participated in China Care at Harvard and told her about it. Also because she grew up in Beijing, she wanted to do what she could to help children of her homeland and meet people who cared about them here in New York. She enjoys the club because the members are friendly and cheerful. She believes that working together to do some good for people who need help is always a refreshing and warm experience. She loves the bake sales. It’s nothing big and grand, but when coins slowly fill up the cashier’s bag, people really begin to realize that every little bit of help counts. During a bake sale she not only can see the effort and passion of the club members, but also see how people, strangers on the streets are willing to help. And she believes that’s why she enjoys this simple but encouraging event so much. |

Elizabeth first heard about China Care through a friend that was a member in the club. She eventually got a chance to meet the club members at the Winter Bake Sale last year, which became her first event as a China Care member. Through the club, she enjoys meeting many great people who are dedicated to helping others. She believes It is inspiring just to be around such kind people and to see how much effort and enthusiasm some of the members put into raising money for and awareness about the orphans in China. Of all of the events she went to last year, she enjoyed the fashion show the most. Collaborating with Yuan for this fun, exciting yearly event seems to bring the most attention (and funds) to China Care, which is definitely a good thing. She is definitely looking forward to all of the events and programs this year, especially the Dumplings program. She can’t wait to see what exciting new things are in store for China Care! |

Dumplings Events Coordinator

Mary was in the club fest in the fall of '07 when Annie stopped her and asked, "Do you care about saving little Chinese babies?" After the first meeting, she immediately fell in love being a part of group that is so beneficial to those who cannot help themselves. Her favorite part of being in China Care is being a part of the China Care family. It was very hard for her to adjust to being in college so far from home. However, through China Care, she felt like she belonged in the group. And of course, it always helps when the club can save adorable little babies. Her favorite event so far was the Rhythm for Life concert the club held in the fall of '07. She thought it did a good job of pulling together part of the NYU community to help the orphans. |
Shengxin Diao
Dumplings Culture Coordinator

Shengxin got involved in China Care based on his Chinese background and calligraphy skill. His drives to stay active are his willingness to help others and making use of his China-related experience and skills. His favorite aspect about being a China Care member is getting a way to know more nice people and getting a chance to help others. So far, Little Dumplings has been your favorite project or event. This year he is looking forward to the Little Dumplings events. He wants it to be creative, helpful and interesting and finally to become a “name tag” of NYU China Care. |

Anna first heard about China Care during the fall semester of sophomore year through her friend, who eventually persuaded her to join the club as well. Her favorite aspect about being a member is having a chance to help those who are in need without borders. When its cute little babies, it’s even better. Her favorite event has been Yuan Fashion show because it not only raises funds, but also gives aware to many college students about the cute little Chinese orphans who need our help.
