Mission Statement
The mission of the NYU Bioethics Forum is to foster the awareness and educated discussion and debate of ethical issues pertaining to the fields of biology, medicine and the life sciences and all the associated technologies, advancements, and implications. Medical Ethics or Bioethics, is the study of moral issues in the fields of medical treatment and research. The professional fields that deal with ethical issues in medicine include medicine, biology, nursing, law, sociology, philosophy, and theology, disciplines which are all common to NYU. We all have a stake in the world of medicine and science, and we all gain and lose as that world changes. With knowledgeable consideration and adequate attention, we will all become better prepared to make the biological and medical choices which will come to face us all.
Statement of Uniqueness
Unlike other organizations within the university which focus on biology, medicine, and the life sciences, the NYU Bioethics Forum will address the ethical and moral implications behind biological technologies and medical advancements. It will serve to foster ethical reflection through panel discussion, lectures and presentations by experts as well as club members. In addition, it will bring together and unify those interested in the field of Bioethics.
