What is AMSA?
AMSA is the pre-medical club at New York University. We aim to develop an ongoing relationship with premedical students. The club runs various activities throughout the year:
- Senior Panel: seniors that have been accepted into medical school offer a first hand perspective of what they did and how they did it
- Review Sessions: prior to scheduled exams, practice materials will be distributed and group study sessions organized for the premed science classes
- Medical School Visits: AMSA organizes trips to local medical schools
- The Pulse: our very own newsletter
- Pre-med Buddy Program: which pairs freshman with upperclassman so that students can separate the myths from facts about being a premed student
With over 60,000 pre-medical students, medical students, interns, residents, and physicians, AMSA is the oldest and largest independent association of physicians in training in the United States. AMSA is committed to promoting universal healthcare, resolving disparities in medicine, encouraging leadership, and transforming the culture of medicine in North America.
We know that being pre-med isn't easy. We know how daunting acronyms such as MCAT, AMAS, MSAR, can be at first. At New York University, we will be there for you when President Sexton is too busy to give you hugs. AMSA@NYU will help you understand the process of pursuing a health profession in the United States. We also hold review sessions for science midterms and finals, and volunteer activities. Ultimately we hope to establish an environment where premeds can share ideas, information and experiences so that our careers at NYU can be collectively illustrious.
The NYU chapter is one of many that exist both in the United States and Canada. For more information, visit www.amsa.org
