Remains of Old Kingdom site on Elephantine Island near Aswan.

We have set the week of Recitation 8 (October 24th) for a tour of the ancient Egyptian galleries of The Metropolitan Museum of Art. There are two tours scheduled.  The first is from 10:15 - 11:15 am (Tour 1), the second (Tour 2) is from 11:45 - 12:45.  You each have been assigned to a tour.  An email will be sent out telling you which tour you should attend.  If you are unable to attend either tour, please see the instructor.  Members of the class will be taken through the galleries by a lecturer who will discuss some of the objects on display. The time that will be spent in the museum is approximately one hour.  We will meet inside the main lobby to the right (as you walk in) of the main information desk, near the entrance to the Egyption galleries.  Meet 10 minutes before your tour is scheduled to start.

Also, you may check Electronic Access, Museum Sites (within this course's page) for a glimpse of the Egyptian and Ancient Near Eastern Galleries on the World Wide Web.

The Metropolitan Museum of Art is on Central Park at 1000 Fifth Avenue (at E. 80th St. and 5th Ave.), New York City. To get to the Metropolitan from NYU, take the number 6 (green) subway from Astor Place (three blocks east of NYU Main building) uptown to 77th Street and walk west toward Central Park.
