TEXTBOOK: blogic is an interactive web-based textbook in introductory logic. The textbook includes interactive exercises that automatically correct the student's work. Topics covered include:
Boolean connectives in online search-strings
logic circuits
propositional logic with truth-tables
modal logic and counterfactuals with possible-worlds diagrams
the logic of frequencies and probabilities
the language of quantification
QUIZZES: The textbook is supplemented by 30 or more graded quizzes. Each student's progress is recorded in a database.
At log-in the student is shown a list links to reading assignments and quizzes
The list shows the student's progress-to-date on each quiz.
The student can resume incomplete quizzes or start new ones.
Grading of the quizzes is competence based.
COURSE ADMINISTRATION: Password-protected web pages provide the instructor with tools for administering the course, including:
syllabus, enabling the instructor to alter the default syllabus
class list, enabling the instructor to add, drop, and e-mail students
gradebook, showing current scores and running average for each student
quiz statistics, showing average and median scores on each quiz and each item
