My Monster
by Brigitte Aponte
My monster, my demon, my fiend
I know you are out there
Although not in my scene
You are roaming free
Breathing the air
Like any other human being
Why can't you be detained
and put in a cage?
Displayed in full view for all the world
to be seen
As the ugly, vile freak
you have always been.

Aren't you both the same?
Both of you exist within
your breathing frame.
One day you turn to me
with love in your eyes.
I look at you
with passion and deep sighs.
What happened?
Where did you go?
Now you despise me
and only venom from you flows.
