240 West 44th Street
This theatre originally opened in 1912 as the Little Theatre and only contained 299 seats because it was designed to specialize in small, intimate plays.
It later enlarged to 500 seats in 1915.
The original Helen Hayes Theatre was upstairs from this one but was demolished in the 80's.
At this point, the Little Theatre was renamed for the illustrious first lady of the American theater.
It is renowned for its tiny Colonial-style lobby with fireplace and its lack of an orchestra pit.
Past Productions include: Torch Song Trilogy
Current production is George Gershwin Alone.
