1980s-The Gay Plague

HISTORY

A rare cancer is beginning to appear in the gay male population. First known as the gay plague, and later defined as Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome when the disease spreads to other groups, many playwrights begin to use this as a themes in their material. The first hit gay play of the 1980s was Harvey Fierstein's Torch Song Trilogy, which displayed no concern for the epidemic sweeping the homosexual population at the time.
