Character List

Montague: Father to Romeo. Head of one of the feuding houses.  To put it lightly, when it concerns the Capulets, this guy would really prefer if his son would choose some one else to love...hence partial reasoning for the secrecy of Romeo and Juliet's passion.

Romeo:  Montague's son.  Completely smitten w/Juliet.  Romeo's a little older than his femme, seventeen maybe (it varies).  He's the foolish love-stuck type only much more eloquent with his word choice than the modern Italians.

Benvolio:  Nephew to Montague.  Cousin/friend to Romeo.  Romeo and Benvolio chill on the regular.  Without doubt these two always have each others backs in a brawl versus the Capulets.

Mercutio:  Kinsmen to the Prince.  Best bud to
Romeo. Also good friends w/Benvolio.  As a threesome, Romeo, Benvolio, and Mercutio  have the potential to kick some serious Capulet boo-tay.

Lady Montague:  Wife to Montague.  Mother to
Romeo.  Like most mothers, just wants her son to be happy.

AbrahamThis cat is a servant to Montague.

Balthasar:  This is Romeo's servant.  He neglects to carry out a crucial errand towards the end of the play. (hint, hint).

Friar Lawrence:  A brother of the Franciscan
order.  Somewhat of an advisor, if you will, to Romeo.  Overall, Friar Lawrence helps the young lovers (R&J) out quite a bit.  He also tries to offer reasoning and rationality to most of this feuding nonsense.

Capulet:  Father to Juliet.  Head of the other
feuding house. Saying he would rather see his daughter dead than in love w/a Montague might be taking it a little far; but he definitely would not condone the pairing of his daughter w/a Montague.

Lady Capulet:  Wife to Capulet.  Mother to Juliet.  Unlike Romeo's, this mother seems to be out for her own best interest as opposed to her daughter's.

Juliet:  Daughter of Capulet.  Head over heels for Romeo.  Mind you she's no more than fourteen.  I'd say give her a few years, let her meet a few more guys, and she would have gotten over the suave sweet talker called Romeo and settled for some other Italian stud.

Nurse:  Nurse to Juliet.  Based on the text, it seems to be that Juliet doesn't have the couple of good girlfriends that every gal needs.  The nurse acts as a supplement for these companions.  The two gab, gossip, regular girly stuff. The nurse also offers a older, wiser perspective that most young ladies lack.

Tybalt:  Nephew of Lady Capulet.  This dude's a real fighter.  Wants nothing more than to bust some s*%t up w/Romeo and his Montague crew.

Paris:  A young count.  Kinsmen to the Prince.
Madly in love w/and hoping to marry Juliet.  From my perspective, a bit of a stiff.

The Prince:  Intensely disapproves of the feuding going on between the houses of Montague and Capulet.  This member of royalty has a rock star monologue ever so slightly into the first act.

Sampson:  Servant to Capulet.

Gregory:  Yet another servant to Capulet.

Peter:  Ah ha!  Peter is a servant to Juliet's Nurse...but I guess that technically makes him also a servant to Capulet because the Nurse is also employed by Capulet.  Oh well.
