Rock Hudson, film star of the 1950's and 60's, earned four Golden Globe Awards and was nominated for an Oscar for his performance in Giant. Despite the success of his cinematic career, Hudson felt forced to hide his sexuality in order to maintain his career. Hudson became the first public figure to acknowledge having AIDS. His fan base was flabbergasted to learn of his homosexuality, and many deserted him. He died at age 59 from complications of the disease.
