NEGATIVE OUTS How can we say this? Things have changed. But coming to terms with internal desires, living life honestly, and acknowledging oneself as gay, homosexual, or queer has never been easy. Even when everything works out perfectly the act of "coming out" to your family, your peers, or your public is a difficult and trying event that one could not imagine unless they have done it themselves. To be labeled as a faggot or as a dyke in this day and age is unfortunate and cruel. In the time of a pre-gay vocabulary, to be labeled as a sodomite, catamite, ingle, ganymede, pathic, cinaedus, bugger, nancy, or invert was downright dangerous. Here is an account of some of the public figures whose careers and lives were destroyed because of the bigotry and hatred surrounding homophobia.
Oscar Wilde "One's real life is so often the life that one does not lead."
Harvey Milk "If a bullet should enter my brain, let that bullet destroy every closet door."
James Whale "The future is just old age and illness and pain...I must have peace and this is the only way."
Bill Tilden "Never change a winning game. Always change a losing one."
Rock Hudson
