NOTES ON THE TEXT

- Shakespeare probably wrote Coriolanus in 1607-08.

- The play was most likely first performed in 1609-10 in the Blackfriars Theatre in London, which had been leased to Shakespeare's company, the King's Men, in 1608 for winter performances.

- Coriolanus is based mainly on the "Life of Caius Martius Coriolanus," written in Greek by the historian, Plutarch, in C.E. 2.  This text was first translated into English by Sir Thomas North in 1529.

-A recent production of Coriolanus was performed at the Shakespeare Theatre in Washington, D.C., under the direction of Michael Kahn.  The Performances ran from January 18th to March 12th, 2000.
