(Dedicated to Dinu Ghezzo)
Doomed by the treachery
Of a foreign power
Where once he dwelt...
Doomed by the destruction
Of his homeland,
The Trojan city-state...
Aeneas with his son and father
Are launched upon a journey,
Vaguely aware of destiny
Transforming mere survival
Into the manifestation of miracles
Making new pathways to bridge
The debris and ruins of broken promises.
Braving a crumbling world order,
Outmoded and decaying,
Aeneas searches for himself,
Seeking identity in countless wonders and distractions,
Calling him to a consciousness emerging
In images of a new humanity.
His was not an odyssey
Seeking to return to a homeland
Distant, lost, and once forgotten.
His was an adventure of the Soul
Severed from its roots...
Seeking to answer the agony
Of belonging nowhere...
In an alien universe,
Intentionally hostile.
Aeneas wandering...
Discovering remote lands
And distant loves,
Stumbling through the remote regions
Of the underworld and back,
Denying the desire
Of a majestic love
Destroyed by the passion
Of his quest.
Aeneas wandering...
Engaging the beasts
Of despair and anguish,
Not yet knowing
He must overthrow the past
To create a new place
In a world not yet formed.
Aeneas ventures forth
In a vague haze
Of diaphanous dreams,
Dimly recognizing his destiny
To found a nation...
To form fresh foundations
For cultures yet to be.
There amidst the seven hills,
Embroidered by a shimmering river,
Aeneas shapes the promise
Of an empire
Banishing antiquity
To Homerian Epics,
Establishing new myths
In an avalanche of discoveries
Outlasting millennia.
Our haven of the twentieth century
Erupts like a super nova,
Dissolving to a fading remnant,
Like a dying star...
The world as we knew it
Is no more.
We require adventure
To voyage beyond familiar constellations,
To host new civilizations
Challenging conceptions,
Shaking foundations,
Shattering illusions,
To create new worlds
Once possible
Only in the remote corridors
Of imagination
Or in the shadows of our dreams.
Our universe explodes,
Rushing toward nothingness.
We are lost
On a spinning sphere
Drifting toward oblivion.
Bathed in the moon-like mystery
Of our desire to know,
And now we reach for realms
Beyond our grasp.
We require adventure,
Astounding and Aeneas-like,
Threading unknown galaxies
Like strands of cosmic DNA,
Connecting alien destinations
And destinies
Into new codes
Of Being and Enlightenment.
Worlds await us!
Like Aeneas,
We need an adventure!
