Jeanette Park
M. Paul Friedberg and Associates (1972)

Located on what was originally Coenties Slip, adjacent to the site of Dutch Stadt Huys or City Hall (1642), Jeanette Park is named after a sailing ship that sank during an 1881 expedition to the North Pole. A focal point of this inviting, humanly scaled, public space is William Britt Fellows & Peter Wormser's 1985 New York Vietnam Veterans Memorial. This glass block and granite monument is an example of the way in which contemporary public art can successfully address both utilitarian and aesthetic issues.
