Internet Reference Tools for Art History

For articles (as well as other materials):

Go to: http://library.nyu.edu/collections/find_articles.html

You must access this via the NYU network or it won’t work.

Under “Databases by Topic,” select “Arts and Humanities.” You will see a list of databases. Useful ones (for this class) include Art Full Text, Art Index Retrospective, ARTbibliographies Modern, Bibliography of the History of Art, and WilsonOmni (a general index to periodical literature).

You can access the Art Index directly at: www.nyu.edu/library/bobst/database/about/artretro.htm

For books and catalogues:

Go to: http://www.bobcat.nyu.edu/

If you want to find out about books that may not be in the NYU library system, you can access more extensive reference catalogues by going to http://library.nyu.edu and clicking on “Search: other catalogs”. Try in particular “WorldCat”, “CATNYP”, or “RLIN”.

(You can also access the “Bibliography of the History of Art” by clicking on its name in the right column of the same page.)

Additional bibliography for modern art:

Go to: http://library.moma.org/ This allows you to search DADABASE, the catalogue of the library at The Museum of Modern Art.
