• Introduction to the software, and the Macintosh computing environment

• Introduction to Adobe Photoshop and basic image scanning with Photoshop

• Demonstration of previous class work as well as some professional examples

Read/do Chapters 1, 2, & 4 in Photoshop 5 Visual Quickstart and read/do chapters 1 & 2 in Director Demystified

Scan at least four related pictures

 

Class 2

• Simple Sequence due

• Introduction to Macromedia Director and basic animation techniques

• Putting a sequence of images together in Director

• Demonstration of previous class work as well as some professional examples

• Director - the Cast and Score windows - creating an animation

Assignment 2 - Due May 25

Create a simple linear movie with scanned images

Create a simple animation (both assignments can apply to, or be used for, later projects)

Review readings - add chapter 5 in the Photoshop text & chapter 3 in the Director text

Idea (on paper) for the simple midterm assignment (this assignment can be part of the Final Project)

 

Class 3

• Screen simple sequences and simple animations

• Idea for Mid-term Project Assignment - class discussion

• Director/Photoshop - DirectorÕs Paint window - titling techniques

• Workshop - titling techniques - mid-term assignment work, individual discussion with instructor

Assignment 3 - Due May 27

Create a title sequence (for Mid-term Project assignment and/or Final Project - can be combined with the draft of Mid-term)

Begin Mid-term Project Assignment (short) - storyboard, gather artwork - can be beginning of Final Project

Review chapters 1, 2, 4, & 5 in the Photoshop text - add chapter 6

Review chapters 1, 2, & 3 in the Director text - add chapter 5

 

Class 4

• Screen animated title sequences

• Director and Photoshop review

• Sound - introduction to digitizing and manipulating audio using SoundEdit 16, acquiring Audio CD tracks, using the microphone, acquiring sound from a cassette tape

• Workshop - Mid-term Project Assignments, individual meetings with instructor

Assignment 4 - Due June 1

Review Photoshop text - chapters 1, 2, 4, 5 & 6 - Director text - chapters 1, 2, 3 & 5

Storyboard the Mid-term Project (on paper)

Initial draft of Mid-term Project (the Mid-term project should be a smaller version of, or part of, the Final Project)

Include some audio in this draft

 

Class 5

• Initial draft of Mid-term Project Assignment - work and critique

• Using color - color resolution, palettes, color depth - adjusting lights and darks

• Idea for Final Project - both class and individual discussions

• Workshop - Mid-term Project Assignments

Assignment 5 - Due June 3

Final draft of Mid-term Project

Photoshop text - chapter 7 (Layers) - Director text - chapters 4 and 6

Web pic - representative of Final Project - should include some creative, organic use of filter(s) in Photoshop

1) must be in .jpg or .gif format - Mode: Indexed - Palette: Web, Exact, or Adaptive - Color Depth: Other or 256 (the less colors used, the better) - Dither: Diffusion or None (bottom line - experiment with the mode until you get the best look)

2) Dimensions: No larger than 6 inches x 6 inches at 72 dpi

3) short description in a simple text document which briefly describes in a few descriptive sentences:

a) what you were attempting to do

b) how you did it

4) Look at past class work at this site under "class web archives" for examples

 

Class 6

• Introduction to Lingo
