Class 2 (September 19/20) 3:30 - 5:30 - lab to complete assignments (Director 8 has not been completely available) 6:30 - 9pm - short lecture and lab - meetings re: project idea with each individual Review of software, Screenings Assignment 2 - Due September 26/27 1 - Redo final project idea if necessary (on paper), include story, media/applications to be used, and type of collaboration needed 2 - Go to http://www.cybertown.com/hilf.html and read the article on digital interactivity "Beginning, Middle, and End - Not Necessarily In That Order" by William Homer Hilf 3 - Read 2 page handout: Introduction from "Writing for Interactive Media" 4 - Study and refer to handout: Adobe "Quick Reference Card" 5 - Read/review chapter 3 "Making it Multimedia" - turn in "Swifty" exercise - include film loop, importing, markers, tempo, sound, and transitions - (materials can be found on the book's CD)
Class 3 (September 26/27) 3:30 - 5:30 - lab 6:30 - 9pm - lecture (guest) and lab - screenings, brief individual meetings, workshop Assignment 3 - Due October 3/4 1 - Do and turn in exercise on Chapter 4 "Introducing Interactivity" - ignore section on creating a projector (I don't want any projectors until the end of the semester) 2 - Read Chapter 10, turn in simple flow chart (on paper) of final project (use examples on pages 320 & 321) 3 - Read handout "The Great Collective Unconscious" - article from Communication Arts Magazine 4 - Begin working on final project, gathering materials, research

Class 5 (October 10/11) 3:30 - 5:30 - lab - complete wireframe, individual meetings with instructor 6:30 - 9pm - User testing of all wireframes, final project specifics (requirements), general review of basic software, workshop as time allows Assignment 5 - Due October 17/18 1 - Complete wireframe of final project (navigational only) with at least one section nearly fleshed out 2 - Paper 1 assigned (due class 7, - 2 weeks from today) 3 - Post collaboration needs/offerings on "digitalmedia" class forum (writing, imaging, sound, lingo, video, design, general Director, etc.). Make sure you include both what you need from someone for your project, and what you can help someone with. Extra credit will be given if you collaborate with more than one person.
Class 6 (October 17/18) 3:30 - 5:30 - open lab, one - one meetings 6:30 - 9pm - Initial wireframe user testing for those who did not have their's user tested last week, workshop as time allows Assignment 6 - Due October 24/25 1 - Finish at least another section of project - consider next week's assignment of a short trailer of your project for this class site. 2 - Final project specs sheet 3 - Paper 1 4 - Continue gathering media elements and fleshing out wireframe
Class 7 (October 24/25) 3:30 - 5:30 - open lab 6:30 - 9pm - Set collaborations, Basic techniques review (rollovers, puppetsprites, pushbuttons, Director movie linking, etc.), Paper 1 (Interactive Adaptation) due today Assignment 7 - Due October 31/November 1 1 - Continue project (this assignment remains constant) 2 - One web site with online content - should not be on the "related links" page from this class site - email site to me 3 - Set collaborations - email collaboration to me
Class 8 (October 31/November 1) 3:30 - 5:30 - open lab 6:30 - 9pm - Assignment 8 - Due November 7/8 1 - Web project - short trailer of project for class web page 2 - Continue project
Class 9 (November 7/8) 3:30 - 5:30 - Workshop on web trailer 6:30 - 9pm - Screen/user test all wireframes with class critique and user testing - how to approach it and use the results to their best advantage, web trailer due today Assignment 9 - Due November 14/15 1 - Continue project
Class 10 (November 14/15) 3:30 - 5:30 - open lab - workshop on web trailer 6:30 - 9pm - Guest Lecture/Demo by Mike Bettison of Candide Media Works - a digital studio in Silicon Alley that produces documentary web sites and online event coverage for top media companies (1st half of class) Senior Dave Ahuja will be screening and discussing some of his work using Adobe After Effects (2nd half of class) Assignment 10 - Due November 21/22 1 - Final project on CD
Class 11 (November 21/22) 3:30 - 5:30 - open lab 6:30 - 9pm - Workshop, one - one meetings Assignment 11 - Due November 28/29 1 - Final Project on CD (final version) - All CDs must contain, in one folder*: A) A projector B) All essential files such as Quicktime movies, external sounds, and all other files required by the projector C) All Director movies * You may use paths to link different folders
