Developer of the first CD-ROM
to introduce QuickTime® VR
What's the next best thing to being on the Starship
Enterprise tm-D? That would be entering the domain of the CD-
ROM Star Trek tm: The Next Generation Interactive
Technical Manual, The Official Starfleet Virtual Tour,
an interactive exploration of the Starship Enterprise tm.
QuickTime® VR (for Virtual Reality) is a technology that
enables you to navigate through 360 degree panoramic views
of a room or an environment all by hand and mouse.
QuickTime® VR also gives you the ability to examine objects
from any angle. Get a bird's eye view of the ship by rotating it
all around. Check out the Sickbay and go to Captain Picard's
quarters, "hold" his knife, poke around and be as darn nosy as
you'd like. You pilot the tour, dragging your mouse around as
you navigate, clicking on the numerous "hotspots."
The Imergy® team directed the photo coverage on the actual
television sets in Hollywood to create this realistic
environment. Each panorama requires only 800KB of disk
space, making possible more than 90 scenes on the CD.
Star Trek tm: The Next Generation Interactive Technical Manual
is the first consumer CD-ROM to introduce QuickTime® VR. In
developing this title for publisher Simon & Schuster
Interactive, Imergy® was the catalyst bringing Apple®
Computer and Simon & Schuster together. A winner of scads
of awards, Star Trek tm: The Next Generation Interactive
Technical Manual has succeeded in selling a fantastic number
in the world of CD-ROMs, some 300,000 copies to date. |
