How do I edit a file that's already in my Files account?
SolutionIf you are using the Files interface, in order to edit a file that's already in your account, you must first save a local copy of the file, make your edits, then re-upload the file. To do so:
- Click on the name of the file in the Files Document Manager. You will be prompted to either save or run the file. Chose Save, then click OK to download the file to the destination of your choice. Please note that some files, such as JPG graphic images, may load automatically in a browser window. To avoid this, you can right-click (CTRL-click on a Mac) on the name of the file you wish to download, and chose "Save As" or "Save Link As."
- Alternately, or if you wish to download multiple files at once: Click the checkbox next to the name of each file you want to download, then right-click (CTRL-click on a Mac) and choose "Save to Zip File". This will create a ZIP file containing each of the files you have selected for download.
- You will be prompted to Save or Run the Zip file. Chose Save, then click OK to download the file to the destination of your choice.
- Use WinZip or the archiving tool of your choice to open the Zip file.
If you have WebDAV set up on your computer and the file is an Office or text file, you should be able to open the file by clicking on the file's name, edit it, and save without having to download it to your local drive.
