Blackboard 8: Course Access and Availability

A Blackboard course site must be requested for a course at the start of each semester. Requests for courses are completed via the Course Request Form (http://www.nyu.edu/its/blackboard/request/). For help using this form, click on the Need Help Using This Form? link in the top right-hand corner of any page of the form.

A Blackboard course site, in which you are enrolled as an instructor, TA, course builder, or student, can be accessed via NYUHome.

	Go to http://home.nyu.edu and log in using your NetID and password. Once in NYUHome, click on the Academics tab near the top right-hand corner of your screen.
If you are the instructor or TA for a course which has not yet been made available to students you will see the course ID in the Blackboard courses channel followed by [unavailable to students].
If you are a student in a course that is not available you will see the Course ID in the Blackboard courses channel followed by [not open].

Making a course available to students

At the beginning of a semester you may make lots of changes to your Blackboard course site. If you are not ready for students to view a specific piece of content, then you can make that particular piece unavailable. However, if you would prefer to make the entire course unavailable to students this can also be achieved. To make the entire course unavailable:
	Go into the Control Panel for the course and click the Settings link in the Course Options section.
	Next, click the Course Availability link and select No next to Make Course Available. Click Submit to save your changes.

Tip Once you have changed the availability setting, users already logged into NYU Home will have to click on the Refresh Blackboard Courses List link at the bottom of the Blackboard Classes Channel. This will refresh the channel and update the course link for students to access the course site.
