Why are there duplicate Total and Weighted Total columns in my Grade Center and what can I do to remove them?
SolutionResolved
This issue was resolved through the Service Pack 5 update supplied by the Blackboard, Inc. and installed at NYU on June 5, 2009. Course sites created after that date should no longer experience the issue. Course sites created prior to that date may still exhibit the issue. For those courses, see the Workaround below.
Issue
Duplicate items of various types appear in the grade center of copied courses.
Symptoms
Symptoms
When a course is copied or imported into an existing course, the resulting course will have duplicate copies of each grading schema (aka display option), Weighted Total, and Totals column - everything from the source course is preserved, and imported into the target course without any cleanup of duplicates or default items. This is a Blackboard 'Known Issue.'
Workaround
Currently, instructors need to manually clean out all duplications.
To remove duplicate Total and Weighted columns:
1. Log into your Blackboard course site, click the Control Panel link in the gray box in the lower left, and click the Grade Center link in the middle box of the right column.

2. Locate the extra 'Total' or 'Weighted Total' column. Click the down arrow to the right of the column header and select Remove Column.

3. Click OK on the pop-up warning message.
4. Repeat for each duplicate column
Note: Remember to leave one Total and one Weighted Total column in your Grade Center. The Total column with the green check mark can not be removed.
To modify the name of a grading schema:
Note: In some course sites, the list of Grading Schemas and the pull down menus for Primary and Secondary Display have duplicate entries. At this time, it is not possible to eliminate the duplicate entries. As an alternative, it is possible to change the name of one schema to delineate it from the other duplicated options.
1. Log into your Blackboard course site, click the Control Panel link in the gray box in the lower left, and click the 'Grade Center' link in the middle box of the right column.

2. click the down arrow next to Manage and select Grading Schemas.

3. Next to one of the schema titles, click the Modify button.
4. Change the name of the schema, for example to 'My Letter', and click Submit.
