It is time to focus some extra attention on your career plans. Are your friends and family asking about your plans after graduation? Have you started to dream about the day after commencement? How does your resume look? Thoughts about your career plans are probably becoming more and more frequent.
You have two primary resources on campus for career planning and support in your senior year, the CAS Career Assistance Program and the Wasserman Center for Career Development.
CAS Career Assistance Program
901 Silver Center, 998-8145
The Career Assistance Program (CAP) is a partnership between the College Advising Center and the Wasserman Center for Career Development which helps students develop career goals and prepare for a successful transition from college to professional life. Discuss your career planning needs and how to effectively utilize these services with a career counselor. This service has been designed to focus on the needs of liberal arts students.
- Career Assessment: Special recommended websites help you explore and link your interests, skills, work values, and education with hundreds of occupations and graduate school programs.
- Mentor Network: Meet CAS alumni and other professionals to get an "inside look" at a variety of careers. Learn about careers you are investigating as well as explore the relationship between your liberal arts degree and your career goals.
- Internships, Part-Time, and Full-Time Jobs: NYU CareerNet lists both paid and unpaid internships and part-time jobs in a wide range of disciplines. They provide valuable "hands on" experience, skills and future career contacts. An internship can also help you define your career goals. Other internships may be available through academic departments.
- Workshops: The Wasserman Center for Career Development sponsors a variety of workshops and panel discussions throughout the year especially for CAS students.
- Resource Library: Career literature, books, graduate and professional school directories, and internet access are available for career research and investigation.
