Freshman Honors Seminars program offers freshmen the opportunity to study in small, intellectually stimulating courses taught by distinguished faculty members from throughout the entire University. Seminars introduce freshmen to challenging standards of analysis and argumentation, oral as well as written. They accomplish this through intensive discussion, focused papers, and readings that emphasize critical interpretation. Course enrollment is generally limited to 16 students to promote an intimate collegial experience. Past Seminars include:
- Computer Simulation, taught by Charles Peskin, Professor of Mathematics and member of The National Academy of Sciences
- Waiting for Beckett, taught by Thomas Bishop, Florence Gould Professor of French Literature and Professor of Comparative Literature
- The Cultural Nature of Language, taught by Bambi Schieffelin, Professor of Anthropology
- The Supreme Court and the Religion Clauses: Religion and State in America, taught by John Sexton, President of New York University
- Classical Mythology, taught by Matthew Santirocco, Seryl Kushner Dean of the College of Arts and Science, Professor of Classics, and Angelo J. Ranieri Director of Ancient Studies
- A real player of Identities, taught by Anna Deavere Smith, University Professor and Professor of Performance Studies in the Tisch School of the Arts, as well as an Affiliate of the NYU School of Law.
