The annual Freshman Convocation, which will take place on Monday, August 25th, is the only time (other than graduation) when the entire class assembles.

9:00 a.m. - 10:30 a.m.
Jerome S. Coles Sports and Recreation Center - 181 Mercer Street (at Bleecker Street). You will need to have your NYU ID to enter the Coles Sports Center.

Immediately following the Convocation, the class will split into a number of discussion groups to discuss with a faculty member Jeffrey Engenides' Middlesex. Your insights will play a significant part in the debate. Colleges thrive on free intellectual exchange, and here is where your career at NYU starts. Your room assignment will be given to you at the Convocation ceremony.

Boat Ride to Ellis Island Immigration Museum
- Join us for a ferry ride across New York Harbor to the Ellis Island Immigrantion Museum. The museum tour includes a walk through the stages immigrants followed, from their first step off the boat to their passage to the mainland, and ultimately their assimilation into American culture. Pre-launch lunch at a Soho restaurant is included.

Friday, September 12, 2008 2:00 pm:
Metropolitan Museum of Art
- Tour the famous Greek galleries tracing the parallel stories of the evolution of Greek Art in the Hellenistic period. Dinner at a Greek restaurant to follow.

Friday, September 19, 2008 2:00 pm:
Museum of Sex
- Since 2002, the Museum of Sex has set precedents in the museum world. IT is wholly dedicated to the history, evolution, and cultural significance of human sexuality. Of particular interest for us will be their transgender collection. Dinner will follow at a Greek restaurant.

Friday, September 26, 2008 3:30 pm:
Museum of Television & Radio
- A glimpse of how gender and sexual orientation has been portrayed over the past 50 years on television. What role has the television industry played in raising the voices of marginalized communities? The outing includes a complimentary dinner to follow.
