Welcome to the Learning Center

Any NYU student enrolled in a College of Arts and Science course is eligible to receive academic support through the College Learning Centers, which are conveniently located in Weinstein Residence Hall and Third Ave. North Residence Hall. A third Center, University Hall, will open in January 2008. The College Learning Centers provide individual and group review sessions for specific courses as well as Academic Success Workshops, absolutely free of charge.

The Learning Center's mission is to assist students in developing the knowledge base, skills, and strategies that will help them to become confident, independent, and active learners. Its various academic support services are intended to help students meet the challenge of the College's rigorous academic standards.

The Center's Learning Assistants are chosen on the basis of their excellent academic record, faculty letters of recommendation, and perhaps most crucially, their ability to explain and convey difficult subject matter to their fellow undergraduates. They receive training in different cognitive styles and tutoring techniques, and can therefore provide instructional approaches that are tailored to the needs of individual students. By encouraging active rather than passive, learning and thinking, the Learning Assistants help students take the responsibility for their intellectual development and academic success.

The staff of the CLC and the faculty, advising staff, and administrators of the College have been collaborative partners in formulating an integrated and effective response to the learning needs of the undergraduate students at New York University.
