Admission to NYU is highly selective. We evaluate students on a number of factors, including their academic performance and personal characteristics. The most important factor in evaluating students for admission is the high school transcript. Most competitive applicants tothe BS/BE program have challenged themselves with a strong college preparatory program, particularly in math and science, and achieved a B+ to A average. We prefer to see chemistry, physics, and pre-calculus or calculus at the high school level. Honors and advanced placement courses make a student more competitive within our applicant pool. We also require the SAT I or ACT, and strongly recommend three SAT II exams in Writing, Math, and an exam of your choice. In addition, please submit two letters of recommendation, one from a teacher and one from a guidance counselor, and an essay. The letters of recommendation and the essay allow the admissions committee to learn more about your personal characteristics and academic and extra-curricular interests.
