On Campus Student Employment

Welcome to working at NYU!

If you have not worked for NYU in the past 3 years OR this is your first time working for NYU, please continue reading! Ultimately, you will need three documents:

  1. On-Campus Student Employee Application: Initial Appointment Form
  2. I-9 form
  3. W-4
Follow the instructions below and click the links at the bottom of this page to access and fill out your forms.

Instructions

  1. Complete and print out an On-Campus Student Employee Application: Initial Appointment Form. Note: If you have already been hired, please skip to step 5.
  2. Visit the Wasserman Center for Career Development to get Step 1 of your Initial Appointment Form signed by a staff member. Students must be registered for a minimum of 3 course credits (or have received Full-time Matriculation (FM) equivalence status) before filling out this form.
  3. Use NYU CareerNet to search and apply for federal and non-federal work study positions. Contact potential employers directly to inquire about interviewing for positions that interest you. Note: If you need to activate your NYU CareerNet account, visit the Wasserman Center in person. Bring your NYU ID card.
  4. Bring a copy of your completed Initial Appointment Form to your interview(s).
  5. On or before your first day of work, return to the Wasserman Center for Career Development and file your:
    1. Completed Initial Appointment Form (completed through Step 2)
    2. I-9 Form: To expedite the payroll process, student employee applicants are encouraged to complete the I-9 form as soon as possible (even before being hired). However, Per the Immigration Reform and Control Act of 1986, you must complete your Employment Eligibility Verification forms (I-9) within 3 days of your start date. No exceptions. Please bring valid original copies of your personal identifying documents for the I-9 form when upon your initial visit to the Wasserman center to complete the on campus student employee application. (Valid forms of personal identification are listed on the i-9 form itself) Only signed original documents are accepted.
    3. NEW OPTION: REMOTE I-9 FORM CERTIFICATION More
      If you prefer not to bring the original identifying documents to campus, you can have an outside agent certify their authenticity, and bring the certified copies to campus. Acceptable agents include a Notary Public, an Attorney or a US Consulate Official. Please follow the instructions below to have an agent certify the I-9 form and supporting documents.

    4. W-4 form
    5. Per New York State Law, if you are under 25 years of age, you must provide federal or state government-issued proof-of-age documentation. Only signed original documents are accepted.
  6. Bring a copy of your completed Wasserman Center approved Initial Appointment Form to your NYU supervisor.
