Identify your interests, skills, and values by attending the First Steps
in Career Planning seminar
Meet with a Career Counselor to discuss your interests, skills, and values
and how they relate to your major or career choice.
Take an interest inventory, skills checklist, or other career-related
assessment tool and begin to identify career options.
Get involved in on-campus clubs and organizations that interest you.
Participate in community service activities.

Investigate all of your career options. Gather information about the
nature of different types of work through print and online resources,
people in the field, and trying them out yourself. |

Develop a list of career options with a Career Counselor.
Research career options using the Center TemPositions Career Resource
Center books and materials.
Get the inside scoop about careers from those in the field by using the
Mentor Network for informational interviews, attending Career Week events
and Career Fairs, and talking to everyone you know in your area(s) of
interest.
Identify the skills and experience you need to obtain a full-time job
in those fields upon graduation.
Gain first-hand experience in various career areas and obtain marketable
skills by getting volunteer, internship, summer, or part-time positions.
Use NYU CareerNet to help you find that opportunity.
Meet with a Career Counselor to narrow down your options based on your
thorough investigation.

Before you jump into your job hunt, develop and implement an action
plan to ensure you are searching effectively. |

Learn how to create a resume and cover letter with the help of the Resume
and Cover Letter Writing seminar. Have them critiqued during walk-in
hours.
Ensure that you have the skills to ace your interviews by attending the
Interviewing Skills seminar and participating in a videotaped Mock Interview
with a Career Counselor.
Learn to how to job search and build and utilize your network of contacts
by attending the Job Search and Networking Skills seminar.
Create a job search strategy tailored to your particular needs with the
help of a Career Counselor.
Obtain interviews with as many employers as possible by utilizing all
of your job search options, including the On-Campus Recruitment Program,
NYU CareerNet, and the Fax Referral Service.
