Recruitment Programs
THE ON-CAMPUS RECRUITMENT PROGRAM (OCR)
From September 2009 through April 2010, the On-Campus Recruitment (OCR) Program
provides rising seniors and graduating students who are seeking summer internships
or full-time employment after graduation the opportunity to interview with representatives
from organizations in private industry, government, and the non-profit sectors.
Over 600 employers visit The Wasserman Center for Career Development annually.
In order to participate in On-Campus Recruitment and use NYU InterviewNet, students
must be graduating in either January, May, or Summer of 2010 or 2011. They must
also attend a mandatory On-Campus Recruitment Orientation and Acing the Interview
seminar which will enable them to learn about the many recruitment events, programs,
and policies that are designed to help them obtain interviews.
NYU INTERVIEWNETStudents manage the on-campus interview process online through NYU InterviewNet. Students have the online ability to: - view position descriptions
- view dates of interviews
- apply for positions
- bid for interviews
- sign up for an interview time
- save resumes in their student record to email directly to employers
It is imperative that students check NYU InterviewNet, email and voice mail frequently for the most up-to-date recruitment information. WAYS TO OBTAIN INTERVIEWS
Resume Books Graduating students may submit a resume to various
industry categories. An electronic resume collection is conducted the May before
graduation, and another collection is completed the following January. Employers
request copies of the books and may make preliminary selections for on-campus
interviews. If your resume is selected from one of the books, you will be notified
via email as to next steps. All notifications regarding resume submission details
will be communicated through the Class of 2009 listserv.
Online Resume Submission Even though many employers will
initially search through the Resume Books (see above) to select their candidates,
students should also submit their resumes through NYU InterviewNet for particular
positions to maximize the effectiveness of their search, provided they meet
the requirements (e.g., GPA, major). For access to NYU InterviewNet you must
attend an On-Campus Recruitment Orientation and Acing the Interview Seminar.
Bidding If your resume is not preselected by an employer,
you can also bid for interviews that interest you. Each student is assigned
a preset number of bids to use throughout the semester. Attend an On-Campus
Recruitment Orientation for more detailed information.
Employer Resume Collections Employers often request resumes
from students meeting specific qualifications in various fields. Information
will be disseminated through the Center Class of 2009 listserv. Position descriptions
and requirements are located on NYU InterviewNet. If you qualify, submit your
resume online.
EMPLOYER PRESENTAIONS
Employer presentations are held prior to an interview date. There are two types of presentations. A general or open presentation is open to all applicable majors and is held approximately one month prior to the scheduled oncampus interview date. This is an excellent way to find out more about recruiting organizations. An information session or closed presentation is held the evening prior to the interview date for those who will be interviewing with the organization. Information sessions are mandatory. Your chances of receiving a second interview/ job offer are slim if you do not attend the information session. We strongly urge you to attend all Employer Presentations in which you have an interest. These sessions provide information on the company, and are a great way to network and gather detailed information on a specific organization. For a detailed listing of the Employer Presentation schedule refer to NYU InterviewNet. OCR FOR LIBERAL ARTS MAJORSOCR is not just for business majors. There are opportunities for students in various disciplines and industries. Traditionally, the fall semester focuses more on “business-related” positions, whereas the spring semester emphasizes opportunities in communications, journalism, advertising, PR, education, and non-profit. Do not miss out on an interview because of a misconception about the organization and available opportunities. There is a growing trend in which employers are seeking “well-rounded” students, rather than students with a specific major or GPA. Think about the skill sets, academic background, and professional experience you can offer. Then determine if you are a good fit for the position requirements.
INTERNSHIPS
Students graduating in January, May, or Summer of 2011 will begin their internship
search during the spring of 2010 Semester. Students may utilize NYU InterviewNet
and OCR during this process, as employers actively recruit for internships as
well.
INTERVIEW CANCELLATION POLICY
You may only withdraw from an interview via NYU InterviewNet 8 days prior to
the scheduled interview date. If you are within 8 days of the interview you
must come in person to the On-Campus Recruitment desk and complete the Interview
Cancellation form. You may not cancel an interview over the phone or via email.
If you do not follow the cancellation policy or are a no-show, your NYU InterviewNet
access will be immediately terminated. If you would like to appeal, please call
the recruitment desk to schedule an in-person appointment with the Assistant
Director to discuss your situation. We strongly discourage cancellations under
any circumstances.
Failure to show up for an interview is both unprofessional and discourteous, and is taken extremely seriously by The Center and the recruiters. A candidate who “no shows” wastes the interviewer’s time and has also prevented another candidate - a fellow classmate - from obtaining that interview slot.
