What will this cost me?

To transfer your credential file to Interfolio.com or another credential management service, you will be required to pay all applicable conversion fees and charges and shipping costs.

How will this process be handled? Your files will be secured and sent to the company where they will be scanned into its computer system. Interfolio will also be keeping the hard copies in storage and a back-up copy on disk. As long as your contact information is up-to-date with our office, you will be receiving a letter in the mail detailing the complete instructions as to how to make requests and how the process will work.

You can learn even more about the process by contacting Interfolio via their website (www.interfolio.com) or toll-free number, 1-877-77-FOLIO. Interfolio's mailing address is

What if I don't have a computer?
We suggest that you use a computer in your local public library or other institution that provides computer access for non-computer owners. Since much of the credential process is becoming web-based, we believe that eventually this will be the only option. For immediate needs and questions, Interfolio.com does have a toll-free number, 1-877-77-FOLIO.

What if I don't want to use this service?
You absolutely have every right not to go with Interfolio.com. If you decide not to use Interfolio, you have the following options. You can:

  • Select another credentials management service ("CMS") and inform us of your choice. You will find potential vendors through an Internet search. You will be responsible for any conversion fee charged by the CMS you choose.
  • Close your New York University credentials file and have the confidential contents destroyed. If you have a non-confidential file, you may request that the contents of your file be forwarded to you.
  • Contact your professors and reference writers directly and have them send individual letters to the institutions that you specify.
  • Obtain non-confidential letters and personally manage these documents.
