Peace Corps Recruitment at NYU
Peace Corps traces its roots to 1961, when President John F. Kennedy signed an executive order creating this federal agency devoted to world peace and friendship. Since that time, nearly 200,000 Americans have served as Peace Corps Volunteers in 139 host countries around the world. By living and serving in a community, Peace Corps Volunteers are able to share new skills and ideas with their host community, while at the same time learn about a new culture and way of life.
2011 marks the 50th anniversary of the Peace Corps, and today the organization is more vital than ever. Peace Corps Volunteers are currently serving in over 70 countries throughout Africa, Asia, the Caribbean, Central and South America, Eastern Europe and the Middle East. Volunteers serve for 27 months in such programs as education, health, agriculture, environment, business, youth and community development, and information technology.
NYU continues to be one of the top Peace Corps Volunteer-producing universities in the country, with over 950 graduates having served as PCVs. There are currently over 60 NYU alumni serving overseas.
