Social Action ExchangeWith support from UJA Federation of New York, the Bronfman Center for Jewish Student Life at NYU is proud to sponsor a unique and exciting program. The Social Action Exchange is a sophisticated and deep Jewish social justice learning opportunity that includes travel to Jerusalem and Budapest to experience Jewish social action perspectives firsthand in a global context. Through the exchange, twelve Jewish students from NYU encounter twelve Israelis and twelve Hungarian students to discuss social justice issues that touch each society. The three groups come together for a week in Jerusalem in January 2010, a week in Budapest in May 2010, and a week in New York in January 2011. In addition, each group meets separately once a week to discuss issues relevant to their own communities and to explore the ways in which Jewish texts address these issues. Through both social justice dialogues and exchange experiences in New York, Israel, and Hungary, students become fluent in Jewish social justice values and how they relate to human dignity, mutual responsibility, solidarity and justice. |
