A Piece Offering
A Piece OfferingFeaturing the work of Ariel Abrahams, Mariyam Astaneha, Steven Benathan, Samuel Holleran, Eli Kaplan-Wildmann, Max Orenstein, Ramona Pringle, Anat Vovnoboy, and Leia Weil A Piece Offering exhibits the work of the 2008 NYU Bronfman Jewish Student Artist Fellows, who were each empowered with the same mission: to create unique work with a Jewish perspective. The distinct mediums- painting, multimedia, photography, poetry, video, performance art, comics, wood cut printing, and dance- are emblematic, uniquely, of the artists who fashioned them. This exhibition is a showcase of subject matter, certainly, from Muslim and Jewish head coverings to Teshuva and from gay rabbis to the European Jewry before the Holocaust, but moreover, it is a showcase of the student artists themselves. Their unique voices and the many different pieces of what it means to be a Jew are at the core of this wholehearted art-offering. |
