FAQ for Passover Seders 2009 at the Bronfman Center

1. Where and when is the seder?


The first seder is Wednesday night, April 8, 2009 at 8:30pm and the second is Thursday night, April 9 at 8:30pm.

Undergraduate seders will take place at the Bronfman Center for Jewish Student Life, 7 East 10th Street, b/w 5th Ave and University. The Village GAP Seders (for Alumni, Graduate Students and Young Professionals) will take place at the Sixth Street Synagogue - 325 East 6th Street (b/w 1st & 2nd Ave).

2. What makes this Seder different than all other Seders?


First, the interactive style of the Seder welcomes participants of all backgrounds.
Second, It's specifically geared for a student audience.
Third, you have four options for what type of Seder you'd like (discussed below in FAQ 5) on the 1st night, and three options for the second night!

3. How much does it cost?


The Seders at the Bronfman Center are offered to undergraduate students from all universities (with student ID) for FREE. The Vilage GAP seders at the 6th Street Synagogue are $50 per person per seder (includes the cost of wine).

4. How do I register? Where do I pay? What is the deadline?

Registration for the seders is now closed. Undergraduate students can still attend any Bronfman seder with a valid student ID. The first night Village GAP seder is booked to capacity. ONLY those who have already registered can attend. You can attend the second night GAP seder by paying $50 at the door (check or credit card accepted).

5. What are my options?


First Night Seders

For undergraduate students only (from all schools), at The Bronfman Center:

The Sarna Family Seder led by Rabbi Yehuda Sarna on the 2nd Floor
An Open and Welcoming Seder for all to join regardless of religious affiliation led by Amy Berenson and Eli Freedman on the 5th Floor
A Traditional Seder led by Rabbi Yonah Hain on the 1st Floor

Village GAP Seder (for Graduate Students/Alumni/Young Professionals, at 6th Street Synagogue, 325 E.6th Street):

Village GAP seders led by Jeremy Fine and Rabbi Charlie Buckholtz at the Sixth Street Synagogue, 325 East 6th Street (btwn 1st & 2nd Ave)

Second Night Seders

A Traditional Seder led by Rabbi Yonah Hain on the 1st Floor of the Bronfman Center
An Open and Welcoming Seder led by Amy Berenson and Eli Freedman on the 2nd Floor of the Bronfman Center


Village GAP seders led by Jeremy Fine and Rabbi Charlie Buckholtz at the Sixth Street Synagogue, 325 East 6th Street (btwn 1st & 2nd Ave)

6. Can I bring friends?


Yes, but everyone needs to sign up individually and must bring a printed confirmation and/or student ID to the seder.

7. What should I wear?


Whatever you would like.

8. Is it ok if I have to or want to come late/leave early?


Yes. The formal part of the Seder, including dinner, will end at 11:00pm.

9. What if I want to come but I missed the deadline?


Please email Julia to inquire about available space. Space is only guaranteed for those who register before the deadline

10. Where can I find kosher for Passover meals?


The Kosher Eatery, located at 5-11 University Place (between 8th Street and Waverly), will be open for Passover Meals during the following days:

- Monday, April 6th - Regular Hours - DAIRY DAY
- Tuesday, April 7th - Cafeteria CLOSED. Free Lunch (Pizza) will be served at the Bronfman Center, 5th Floor between 12:00-2:00pm.
- Wednesday, April 8th - Saturday, April 11th - Cafeteria CLOSED.
- Friday, April 10th - Cafeteria CLOSED. Free Shabbat Dinner for all students co-sponsored by the Bronfman Center and Chabad will be served at Chabad, 27 Washington Square North (Downstairs)


CHOL HAMOED / INTERMEDIATE DAYS:

- Sunday, April 12th - Cafeteria is Open from 12:30-7:30pm
- Monday, April 13th - Cafeteria is open from 11:30am - 7:30pm
- Tuesday, April 14th - Cafeteria is open for lunch from 11:30am-2:30pm

HOLIDAY MEALS

For the following holiday meals, advance reservation is required. Please purchase a voucher, in person, at the Kosher eatery (on Sunday 4/12 or Monday 4/13, before 7pm)
- Tuesday Dinner, April 14th - 8pm
- Wednesday, April 15th - Lunch at 1pm, Dinner at 8pm
- Thursday Lunch, April 16th - 1pm

For Shabbat AFTER Passover (April 17th Dinner and April 18th Lunch), advance reservation is required. Please purchase a voucher, in person, at the Kosher eatery on Sunday, 4/12 or Monday, 4/13 before 7pm)

12. How do I sell my Chametz? Where can I find the form?



Instructions for completing the sale of Hametz:


You have two options:

  1. For those wishing to make a kinyan in order to finalize the sale of hametz (preferable option), email Yonah Hain.
  2. To view and print the Sale of Chametz Form, click here. Once the form is filled out, please email it to Yonah Hain or bring it to the 5th floor of the Bronfman Center and leave it in the envelope taped to the door.
