Becoming: Visions of Childhood
BRONFMAN CENTER GALLERY 7 East 10th Street, New York, NY 10003 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: New York University’s Bronfman Center Gallery is delighted to present Becoming: Visions of Childhood. Becoming: Visions of Childhood weaves together an international selection of emerging and established artists. Painting, photography, illustration, sculpture and mixed media representing a rich array of cultures, experiences and sensibilities are featured. Adela Leibowitz’s haunting narrative paintings suggest childhood’s perils. Anne Sassoon’s poignant images question the roles imposed upon children. Kam Mak’s award-winning illustrations capture his childhood in New York City’s Chinatown. Maria Dominguez’s expressionistic painting portends the dangers of growing up in the inner city, while Anique Taylor’s lyrical work challenges the expectations imposed on girls coming of age in suburban Connecticut. With its array of themes and artistic expressions, Becoming: Visions of Childhood evokes and provokes. Other featured artists include: Barbara Bailey, Bastardilla, Lloyd Bloom, C215, Cern, Leora Cheshin, Chris Cortes, Meydad Eliyahu, Eric Ginsburg, Lorenzo Gomez, Alec Jacobson, Lisa Lebofsky, Carol Markel, Aaron Lazansky-Oliva, Carol Radsprecher, Nelson Rivas, Julio Rölle, Bonnie Rothchild, Adam Saewitz, Amitai Sandy, Jill Schifter, Preet Srivastava, Stinkfish, Melanie Vote, Marcy Wasserman, Matthew Wheeler, Zero Cents and Antonio Zito. A selection of children’s artwork is also featured. Curated by Lois Stavsky, the exhibit opens on Thursday March 27th and continues through May 18th. A reception for the artists will be held on Thursday, March 27th 7-9pm. The Bronfman Center Gallery is located at 7 East 10th Street between 5th Avenue and University Place in New York City.
