New York Jewish Student Film Festival
APPLICATION DEADLINE HAS BEEN EXTENDED. Please contact ERICA.FRANKEL@NYU.EDU for more details!

The New York Jewish Student Film Intensive, presented by AVODA Arts and the Bronfman Center at NYU, is designed to attract the Film student or filmmaker who is Jewish or interested in making work with Jewish content. The work produced during the course of the Intensive will be groomed for submission to the 2010 NY Jewish Student Film Festival. Filmmakers will submit proposals to the Film Intensive committee for review and come to the Intensive with a seedling idea for their films. These ideas should be actualized in some way, whether it be in the form of preliminary film samples, story-boarding, script, etc. The Intensive will serve as an incubator for these ideas.
This symposium will consist of hands-on workshops with distinguished Film professionals. Rather than being a classroom setting, where students are lectured at and the discussion centers around a purely academic curriculum, the discussions will be Jewish-film-centric and the sessions will be vibrantly hands-on and interactive. It will be a film immersion experience, as well as an opportunity for filmmakers in the New York area (and also outside of it) to network with others who share their interests.
The Film Intensive will sponsor a limited number of scholarships for students who may be outside of the New York area to encourage their attendance. Along with the call for participant submissions, there will be a call for scholarship application submissions. These scholarships will cover transportation to New York City, as well as a stipend for food and transportation needs during the students’ stay. Home-stays will be organized with NYU students to provide students from outside the city with an even fuller immersive experience.
We welcome a large variety of films and videos. Nothing is too edgy or off-the-wall! Make us rant, ponder, sob or laugh hysterically! Films from all genres are encouraged.
Criteria for submissions:
The filmmaker is currently a graduate or undergraduate student AND one of the following:
1) Jewish. OR
2) The film/video is of obvious Jewish content or reflects issues having to do with cultural, political, or religious themes.

Caffeine-Fueled Flicks Festival

Attendees to the Film Intensive will also have the option to participate in the first annual Bronfman Caffeine-Fueled Flicks Festival two weekends before the intensive in NYC. Much like Apple’s "Insomnia Film Festival," students will have 24 hours to create a short film that incorporates 3 secret elements that will be revealed as soon as the competition begins. Participants will receive all of the details at 9:00 AM EST on April 5, 2009 and will need to create and upload their videos by 9:00 AM EST on April 6, 2009.
Students across the country will then have the opportunity to log online and vote for their favorites! The top 3 films will be shown at the New York Jewish Student Film Intensive, and the favorite film will be awarded a cash prize.
