ALERT: Unscheduled System Outages due to Hurricane Sandy

During the approaching storm, ITS is focusing on keeping high-priority services available as long as possible. To conserve resources, ITS will shut down some lower-priority services until after the storm passes. See below for details.

SERVICES THAT WILL REMAIN AVAILABLE
Many NYU services are expected to remain available. These include:
- Blackboard
- Email Direct
- Files 2.0
- Nursing website
- NYUAD website
- NYUHome
- NYU Blogs
- NYU Classes
- NYU Google Apps for Education (E-mail, Calendar, Docs/Drive etc.)
- NYU Lists
- NYU Survey Service (Qualtrics)
- NYU Wikis
- Telephones (VOIP phones will not be available if a power outage occurs)
- Webspace
- WWW (NYU public website)

SERVICES THAT WILL REMAIN AVAILABLE UNLESS THERE IS A POWER OUTAGE IN LOWER MANHATTAN

1. Services shutting down on SUNDAY, OCTOBER 28TH at MIDNIGHT EDT

- High Performance Computing
- Hyperion
- ImageNow
- Interwoven
- ITS Print Services (Student Printing)

- NYU Traveler

- UAR - Universal Accounting
- UDW+ SIS/EPM

2. Services shutting down on MONDAY, OCTOBER 29 at 9AM EDT
- All ITS-managed departmental services in the South Data Center
- Windows File Share

ITS has been in touch with the business owners associated with these services and they are completing their scheduled work on the services before these shutdown times. ITS is also working with our colocation service clients on arrangements for their systems.

All services will be made available as soon as possible depending upon power availability and damage from the storm.

NETWORKING
Due to high winds, we may lose NYU-NET network connectivity to the following buildings, which are connected via microwave:
- 80 Lafayette Residence Hall
- 250 Park Avenue South
- 400 Broome Street Residence Hall
- Grammercy Green Residence Hall

It is our expectation that the rest of NYU-NET will remain available. NYU is served by four different Internet Service Providers (ISPs). If their facilities are damaged or their networks are overburdened, network traffic on- and off-campus could be compromised.

ITS WALK-IN LOCATIONS
ITS walk-in locations in New York will be closed while NYU-NY is closed; please see the NYU Information Alerts website for the latest information (see below). The IT Service Desk will remain available by phone at 212-998-3333 and by e-mail at AskITS@nyu.edu.
