Wrestlers Take Down Bridgewater State
12/08/07
The New York University wrestling team defeated Bridgewater State College 28-3 on Saturday in Danbury, CT.
NYU, now 3-1 in dual matches this season, won all but one of the 10 bouts.
For the second consecutive day, senior captain James Layman (HWT) posted an overtime victory. Following a 4-3 win that took six overtime periods in NYU's 33-9 win over Hunter College on Friday, Layman took only three overtimes to defeat his opponent 5-3 on Saturday.
While no NYU grapplers pinned their opponents on Saturday, freshman Matthew Magill (149) did post a 14-2 major decision, while senior captain Nick Coleman (184) posted a 7-2 decision over a ranked opponent.
Sophomore Kyle Christensen (125), junior Joseph Ranzenbach (133), and senior captain Takafumi Hashimoto (157) each posted victories for the second consecutive day.
"We're wrestling the best we have all year," said NYU head coach Bruce Haberli. "It's great for us to finish off the first semester on such a high note."
