The New York University women's volleyball team rallied from two games down to defeat the University of Rochester in the fifth-place match at the University Athletic Association (UAA) Championship, Saturday, November 3, in Rochester, NY.

The Violets (18-18, 5-6 UAA) fell behind early, dropping the first two games 30-28, 30-26 to the host Yellowjackets (17-21, 1-10 UAA), but fought back to win the next two 30-25, 30-18.

In game five, NYU fell behind 11-6 but freshman Anna Koehler served an 8-0 run to rally the team to a 15-13 victory and a 3-2 victory for the match, earning head coach Ed Caesar the 200th victory of his career.

Freshman Rachel Sawyer continued her stellar weekend and entered into the NYU rally-scoring record books against Rochester. She recorded 42 digs in the match, breaking the record set by Martha Gardikas against Juniata College in the NCAA Elite Eight in 2003. Over the course of the weekend, Sawyer recorded 84 digs, averaging six per game.

Also recording a career best was senior Nicole Lubell, who notched a career-high 28 kills, tying the NYU rally-scoring single match record held by both Elena Drinka and Jennifer Gardikas. Lubell also hit a team-best .387 for the match. Over the course of the weekend, she notched a team-high 61 kills (4.36 K/G) while hitting .355.

Also strong for NYU was freshman setter Annie Baer, who ran a powerful offense while notching a career-high 65 assists, one shy of the NYU rally-scoring record. She also recorded 12 digs and six kills, while eclipsing the 1,000-assist mark for the season.

Freshmen Erin Noonan and Kasey Estes also recorded double-digit kills for the Violets with Noonan putting down 13 and Estes adding 14.

The Violets, with their regular season now complete, will wait to see where they will head next. Both the NCAA and the ECAC will announce their tournament brackets on Sunday. Information and match-ups will be posted on the NYU Athletics website when they become available.
