Women's Volleyball Defeats Chicago, Advances to Fifth-Place Match

The New York University women's volleyball team defeated the University of Chicago 3-0 in the final match of Pool B play at the University Athletic Association (UAA) Championship, Saturday, November 3, at the University of Rochester.

The Violets (17-18, 4-6 UAA), seeded sixth in the championship, defeated the seventh-seeded Maroons (7-25, 1-9 UAA) 30-17, 30-26, 30-24, to finish 1-2 in Pool B play. NYU now advances to the fifth-place match against either the University of Rochester or Case Western Reserve University at 2:00 pm.

Leading the way on offense for NYU was freshman Adrienne Spohr, who recorded a team-high 17 kills while hitting.469 and adding four digs.

Also strong at the net for the Violets was senior Nicole Lubell, who recorded 15 kills and hit a team-best .448.

On the back line, freshman Rachel Sawyer continued her impressive weekend, digging up 19 balls while adding a team-best five service aces.

Freshman Annie Baer helped run the strong NYU offense by putting up 37 assists while adding eight digs and three kills.
