Women's Volleyball Falls Twice on First Day of UAA Championship

The New York University women's volleyball team lost 3-0 to Emory University in its second match of the day at the University Athletic Association (UAA) Championship on Friday at the University of Rochester.

Seeded sixth, the Violets (16-18, 3-6 UAA) fell to the #2 Eagles (30-11, 30-14, 30-22) to drop to 0-2 in Pool B play. Emory is also ranked #8 in the CSTV/American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Division III Poll.

Leading the way for NYU on offense was senior Nicole Lubell, who put down nine kills while hitting a team-best .231.

Meanwhile, freshman Erin Noonan recorded seven kills and added a solo block.

On the defensive side of the ball, freshman Rachel Sawyer dug up a team-high 11 balls and contributed one service ace.

In their first match of the day, the Violet fell to #3 Brandeis University (24-8, 5-3 UAA) 3-0 (30-22, 30-15, 30-23).

Lubell led the way offensively for NYU, putting down nine kills while hitting a team-best .292.

On the defensive side of the ball, Sawyer recorded a team-high 12 digs.

Meanwhile, junior captain Stacy Goto enjoyed a solid all-around match for NYU, recording six kills along with eight digs.

The Violets return to the court at 9:00 am Saturday to face #7 University of Chicago. The result of that match will determine whether the Violets play for fifth or seventh place in the UAA on Saturday afternoon at 2:00 pm.
