Women's Volleyball Knocks Off Clarkson, Takes Fifth at NYSWCAA Championship

The New York University women's volleyball team defeated Clarkson University in straight games to secure a tie for fifth place at the New York State Women's Collegiate Athletic Association (NYSWCAA) Volleyball Championship on Sunday at the Coles Sports Center in Manhattan.

The Violets (16-16), seeded fifth in the tournament, defeated the Golden Knights (21-14) 30-18, 30-22, 33-31, to tie for fifth place with Skidmore College.

Senior Nicole Lubell recorded an error-free match to lead the way on offense for NYU. Lubell notched a team-high 12 kills on 25 attempts to hit a team-best .480 for the match.

Also strong on offense for the Violets was NYSWCAA Rookie of the Year Erin Noonan who recorded her 21st double-digit kill match, putting down 10 kills while adding five digs and a service ace. At the conclusion of the tournament, Noonan was also named to the All-Tournament team.

On the defensive side of the ball, freshman Rachel Sawyer recorded a career-high 22 digs to lead the way for NYU.

Sophomore Jourdan Ellis and senior Samantha Bivens also both recorded double-digit digs for the Violets, with Bivens putting up 13 balls and Ellis adding 11 more.

The Violets return to action next weekend when they travel to the University of Rochester for the University Athletic Association (UAA) Championship. NYU, seeded sixth, will face #2 Emory University, #3 Brandeis University and #7 University of Chicago in pool play on Friday, November 3.
