Women's Volleyball Advances to Second Round at NYSWCAA Championship

The New York University volleyball team swept St. Lawrence University to advance to the second round of the New York State Women's Collegiate Athletic Association (NYSWCAA) Volleyball Championship, Saturday, October 27, at the Coles Sports Center in Manhattan.

The Violets (15-15), seeded fifth in the championship, defeated the 12th-seeded Saints (17-15) 30-21, 30-28, 30-7. NYU now advances to face #4 SUNY Brockport at 4:00 pm this afternoon.

Leading the way on offense for NYU were senior Nicole Lubell and freshman Erin Noonan. Noonan put down a team-high 14 kills, hitting .345 and adding two blocks, while Lubell notched 13 kills and hit .346.

Sophomore Jourdan Ellis recorded an impressive overall performance for the Violets, digging up a career-high and team-best 13 balls while adding two service aces and two blocks. She also put down four kills while hitting .444.

Running the offense for NYU, setter Annie Baer put together one of her strongest matches of the season. The freshman recorded 37 assists with a .446 set percentage and helped the team to an overall .308 hitting percentage for the match. It was the Violets' second highest percentage of the season. Baer also recorded 11 digs and two service aces.

Following the match, the NYSWCAA All-State Selections were announced with Noonan receiving Rookie of the Year honors and Lubell earning All-State Honorable Mention.
