Women's Volleyball Goes 1-1 on Second Day of Violet Classic

The New York University women's volleyball team garnered a quick 3-0 over SUNY Potsdam in its final match of the 2007 Violet Classic, Saturday, October 6, at the Coles Sports Center in Manhattan.

The Violets (13-11) defeated the Bears (10-14) in straight games 30-17, 30-21, 30-26 to give the team a 2-2 record and a third place finish over the weekend.

Leading the way on Senior Day and Family Day for NYU was senior Nicole Lubell. The senior notched a team-high 11 kills and hit a team-best .375. She was also named to the All-Tournament Team after notching a team-high 49 kills and hitting .236 while adding 16 digs and three blocks over the course of the weekend.

Fellow senior Samantha Bivens also recorded a strong match, notching a team-high 15 digs.

Two freshman also helped propel the Violets to victory. Annie Baer put up 27 assists in two games and also added four digs while Anna Koehler dug up a career-best 13 balls while also serving a career-best-tying three aces.

In NYU's first match of the day, the team fell to the RIT Tigers (19-7) 3-2 (30-24, 30-19, 28-30, 17-30, 15-9).

Lubell record a career-high 21 kills while hitting a team-best .220.

Freshmen Kasey Estes and Erin Noonan also recorded double-digit kills for the Violets with Noonan putting down 14 balls while Estes notched 11 more.

Five players recorded double-digit digs for NYU including junior captain Stacy Goto who recorded a team-high 20. Bivens notched 15 while Koehler and sophomore Michaela Hammond each added 10.

Baer added a career-best 15 digs while also putting up 42 assists and tacking on three blocks.

The Violets return to action Wednesday, October 10, when the travel to New Paltz, NY to take on SUNY New Paltz. First serve is set for 7:00 pm.
