
Women's Volleyball Downs Gettysburg In Front of Record Crowd

The New York University women's volleyball team toppled Gettysburg College 3-0 in front of a record crowd Friday at the Coles Sports Center in Manhattan.
A crowd of 686 witnessed the Violets (12-10) defeat the Bullets (12-8) in straight games, 30-21, 30-25, 32-30.
Leading the way for NYU was senior Nicole Lubell, who tallied a team-high 13 kills while hitting a team-best .333 for the match.
Also strong on offense for the Violets were freshmen Erin Noonan and Adrienne Spohr. Both players notched 11 kills and two blocks, while Spohr also added eight digs and a team-best four service aces.
Junior captain Stacy Goto and sophomore Michaela Hammond both had strong defensive performances for NYU with Goto recording a team-high 15 digs and Hammond adding a career-best 14.
Freshman Annie Baer fueled the offense, putting up 35 assists while two service aces and nine digs.
In its first match of the day, NYU fell to #11-ranked CSTV/American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Division III Poll Haverford College 3-1 (30-17, 30-21, 27-30, 30-19).
For NYU, Noonan and freshman Bethany Burr and sophomore Jourdan Ellis all recorded double-digit kills. Noonan led the team with 13 and added two blocks; Ellis recorded a double-double with 12 kills and 11 digs while hitting a team-best .318 and Burr notched a personal-best 10 kills and tacked on six digs.
On defense, Goto led the way, recording a team-high 17 digs while also serving a team-best two aces.
The Violets return to action at 12:00 pm tomorrow when they take on Rochester Institute of Technology. Prior to the match, NYU will honor Lubell and fellow senior Samantha Bivens in a brief ceremony.
