The New York University women's volleyball team defeated the College of St. Scholastica and fell to host Millkin University on Saturday in the 5th Annual Linda Slagel Classic, which is being hosted by Millikin University in Decatur, IL.

Freshman Erin Noonan was named to the All-Tournament Team as NYU (9-8) finished 1-3 at the tournament after dropping a 3-0 (30-21, 30-19, 30-19) decision to Millikin in its final match Saturday.

Prior to the loss, the Violets overcame a first-game setback to score a 3-1 victory over St. Scholastica (27-30, 30-23, 33-31, 33-31).

Leading the way for NYU in that match were Noonan and fellow freshman Adrienne Spohr. Noonan recorded 17 kills while hitting a team-best .389. Spohr recorded the fourth double-double of her career, putting up career-best numbers in both kills (17) and digs (16) on her 18th birthday.

Three other Violets recorded double-digit kills in the win: freshman Julia Rickert (13), sophomore Jourdan Ellis (12), and senior Nicole Lubell (10).

Freshman Annie Baer posted a career-high 63 assists, the most by a Violet since Katya Khmelnitskaya put up 65 in 2005. Baer also added a season-best 11 digs along with four kills.

The backcourt of freshman Rachel Sawyer and junior captain Stacy Goto also had stellar matches. Goto dug up 23 balls, while Sawyer put up a career-best 20 and added a team-best three service aces (including the match winner in the fourth game).

On the first day of play at Millikin, NYU fell to Albion College 3-0 (30-20, 30-21, 30-27) and to Illinois Wesleyan University 3-1 (30-15, 28-30, 30-20, 20-24).

Lubell recorded 10 kills against Albion and 14 against Illinois Wesleyan to extend her double-digit kill streak to seven matches.

Also strong for NYU was Spohr, who recorded 13 kills, including her 100th of the season, against Albion. She also recorded 16 digs, two service aces and two blocks on the day.

Noonan also recorded 13 kills on the day and added 10 blocks, including two solos.

On the defensive side of the ball, Goto recorded 15 digs in both matches on Friday.
